Vehicle, bicycle & pedestrian safety

Every year, numerous injuries and deaths are caused by crashes involving drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. To help prevent such collisions, everyone should pay attention when they’re on the road and be respectful toward one another. Learn how you can help make the roads safer for everyone.

Child safety seat events

Parents, grandparents, and anyone else who drives with young children in the car should be able to handle child safety seats properly. That’s why AAA offers classes hosted by certified technicians which teach families about child passenger safety laws, how to select the right car seat, how to secure a child in a car seat, and installation tips. RSVPs are required for these events, as space is limited.

Safety Smarts! community education

This traffic safety education program is designed to teach young children safe pedestrian, passenger, and bicycling habits through presentations and hands-on experiences. Topics and formats are tailored to meet individual school’s needs. Please contact us for further information.

School’s Open: Drive Carefully Campaign

AAA's annual School's Open—Drive Carefully! program uses colorful graphics and various products and publications to alert drivers and pedestrians to be cautious near school zones. Since AAA began School's Open—Drive Carefully! in 1946, the program has successfully contributed to lowering school-related pedestrian fatalities.

School Safety Patrol

For more than 90 years, AAA has supported the School Safety Patrol Program, which instills students with a sense of responsibility and leadership as they protect classmates going to and from school. This support has resulted in the production of a number of products such as the distinctive green Sam Browne belt worn by nearly 500,000 patrols in 50,000 schools. In 1985, the School Safety Patrol Program, the largest safety program in the world, received the Presidential Citation for private sector initiatives.
